Created as the official mascot for the Gold Coast Beach Parade, “Burleigh” the Koala was designed to capture attention, inspire community participation and raise awareness for koala conservation. Launched in April 2021, the giant helium-filled inflatable took to the skies above Burleigh Beach, giving the Gold Coast community its first “glimpse of the blimp” and building excitement ahead of a world record attempt for the largest beach parade wearing koala ear visors.
Measuring approximately 6 metres high and 5.3 metres wide, the custom helium inflatable was engineered to create a highly visible landmark along the coastline. Designed as a friendly, approachable koala character, Burleigh quickly became a memorable symbol for the event, encouraging community involvement while promoting the Gold Coast’s coastal lifestyle and vibrant tourism appeal.
Beyond its visual impact, the inflatable koala supported a meaningful cause. The Gold Coast Beach Parade raised funds for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation, helping protect local koala populations threatened by habitat loss and environmental pressures. Floating above the beach, Burleigh created strong photo opportunities for media coverage while drawing crowds and generating conversation around the initiative.
Engineered for helium inflation and tethered movement, the parade balloon delivered both excitement and brand visibility across the beachfront environment. Playful, engaging and purpose-driven, the Burleigh Koala demonstrated how custom helium inflatables can elevate community events, support fundraising initiatives and create unforgettable large-scale public moments.
