The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the world’s most vibrant celebrations of pride, featuring thousands of marchers, colourful floats, music, performance and powerful expressions of queer activism along Oxford Street. While the event is a celebration of community and identity, it also provides an important platform to raise awareness around wellbeing, connection and support within the LGBTIQ+ community.
Partnering with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, RUOK? brought its message of meaningful conversation and mental health awareness to the parade in 2025 and 2026. Through the “U Matter to Me” initiative, the campaign encouraged people to check in on friends, reduce stigma and support one another, not just during Mardi Gras but all year round.
To help amplify this message within the vibrant nighttime parade, we created a series of illuminated inflatable spheres designed for maximum visibility and mobility. Lightweight spheres were mounted to poles and specially designed backpacks, allowing participants to carry the message above the crowd as they moved along the parade route. Larger inflatable spheres were also incorporated into the parade float, creating a cohesive and highly visible campaign presence.
The glowing inflatables added colour, movement and energy to the procession while reinforcing a message grounded in care and connection. Portable, eye-catching and uplifting, the RUOK? spheres demonstrated how custom inflatables can support meaningful conversations, elevate awareness campaigns and contribute to the powerful atmosphere of events like the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
