The Unsinkable Guy — Victorian Government Water Safety Campaign

In response to men representing four out of five drowning deaths in Victoria over the past decade, the Victorian Government Department of Justice and Community Safety launched The Unsinkable Guy campaign to challenge the dangerous misconception that men are somehow immune to risk around water. Targeting men aged 25–64, the campaign used humour and visual storytelling to deliver a serious and potentially life-saving message: no one is unsinkable.

Developed as the centrepiece of this fully integrated campaign, we created a series of custom inflatable “Unsinkable Guy” characters designed to capture attention across beaches, rivers and boating environments. Featuring four multicultural characters, the inflatables used an approachable, almost humorous style to draw people in before delivering the campaign’s important safety message.

The inflatable characters were designed for flexibility and rapid deployment, allowing production teams to move between multiple locations efficiently. Lightweight, durable and stable across varying outdoor conditions, the inflatables supported a fast-paced rollout across TV, digital, social media, radio and press, while also appearing across social platforms documenting the “(Mis)Adventures” of the Unsinkable Guy’s.

By transforming critical safety statistics into engaging visual storytelling, the inflatable installations helped spark conversation and encourage behavioural change. The campaign highlighted how custom inflatables can play a powerful role in public awareness initiatives by combining humour, scale and visibility to deliver meaningful, memorable safety messaging.
